
Joe Sapp, MBA, CAE | President and Co-Founder
Joe has spent his career helping associations grow and thrive through association management and building successful partnerships with volunteer leaders. Before Momentum, Joe served as President of Talley Management Group. Joe spearheaded a period of tremendous growth for the company, which expanded to over 75 employees.
Joe’s time at Talley saw him lead nearly every key area of the business, including technology, new business, marketing, and association management services. After leading the company as COO and President for over 5 years, Joe departed to join Matt and form Momentum Association Management.
Joe has served as an Executive Director for 8 different associations. This includes leading a strategic segment of certification-based associations and delivering examinations to over 5,000 individuals annually. He successfully led the American Institute of Constructors in converting its examinations to computer-based testing, while also achieving ANSI Accreditation. As Executive Director of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles, he expanded the organization from 600 to 2,000 members in just four years. During that time, ISEV’s revenue rose from $700,000 annually to $2M.
As President of Momentum, Joe leads internal operations, service delivery, and new business efforts. Joe’s broad experience over 18 years at Talley has given him a unique set of expertise as it relates to the operations of an association management company and its client partners. As a technology superuser, Joe is current on the latest technology that moves both Momentum and its clients forward.
Joe earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential in 2014 from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). The same year, Joe was named to the Association Forum of Chicagoland’s prestigious Forty Under 40 List. Joe is the Immediate Past-President of the Mid-Atlantic Society of Association Executives (MASAE), the local chapter of ASAE. A former student-athlete at Northern Illinois University, where Joe earned three Varsity Letters on the Huskie Wrestling Team.
Joe lives in Madison, WI, spending his free time with his young son Teddy and Golden Retriever Ernie. A lifelong Cubs fan, Joe is also a big supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles and Everton Football. Joe is also an avid candlemaker, always looking to pour the perfect one.
